The modified T-47 Airspeeder built by the Incom Corporation, with afterburner, reaches a speed of a good 110 km/h, but it is not capable of space flight and is therefore of limited application. As one of the most widely used types of spacecraft in the galaxy, the T-47 is found in nearly every industrialized world. The T-47 modified by the rebels is known as the Snowspeeder and was used in the battle on the ice planet Hoth in order to hold the approaching AT-ATs at bay. The modifications made included additional technical equipment to prevent the power plant from immediately freezing up. Thanks to their high speeds the Snowspeeders are difficult to catch. The strong cables that were originally designed for towing heavy loads and which were used to good effect against the AT-ATs are fired by harpoon guns. If necessary, the pilot, who sits back-to-back with the gunner in the cockpit, can take over complete control of the weapons in addition to the navigation.
