Production switched to a further improved varient that could use overwing tanks and the XR769 was built in December 1965. During its service career it operated with no's 74, 5 and finally 11 squadron at Binbrook, Lincs. The aircraft was lost on 11th April 1988 when it crashed off the Humber Estuary.
